After the Inquest
Registering a death after an inquest
When an inquest has been concluded our court staff will register the death using information obtained at the Inquest, so the bereaved do not need to attend the Registrars’ Office.
Obtaining a death certificate
When the Inquest has concluded, you will be able to get the final death certificate. Please wait 10 days after the conclusion of the inquest to allow time for the death to be entered in the register. You will then be able to order death certificates from the Registrar’s Office.
If you disagree with the outcome of an inquest
If you are an Interested Person and you disagree with the findings of fact or the conclusion of the Inquest there is no route of appeal, however it is sometimes possible to challenge a coroner’s decision or an inquest conclusion by applying to the High Court for what is called a 'judicial review' or under s.13 Coroners Act 1988. The grounds for bringing a challenge are complex and you may need to take legal advice and obtain specialist assitance from a solicitor.
